Emergency crews are continuing to tackle a fire involving six thousand tonnes of scrap metal in Hailsham.

55 firefighters have been battling the blaze at the Diplocks Industrial Estate.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service say they have made steady progress throughout the night.

While Diplocks Way is closed to through-traffic, access is being given to people who work at nearby businesses.

People are being urged not to come to the area unless they absolutely have to.

There is still smoke in the area which may increase as the fire and rescue service works with the onsite operators to clear the stack of scrap metal which is alight.

Locals are advised to keep doors and windows closed as any smoke can be an irritant.
