Large fire at Southampton docks now under control
Around 60 firefighters were needed when a fire involving more than 7,000 tonnes of scrap metal broke out at Southampton docks.
The blaze started on a cargo ship, which was carrying around 28,000 tonnes of scrap metal, yesterday afternoon.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service sent six fire engines and support vehicles to prevent the flames spreading.
Residents nearby were advised to keep windows and doors shut.
Early today the service confirmed the fire had been brought under control.
