Man charged with murder as Sussex stabbing victim named

A man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in St Leonards.

The victim has been identified as Salvis Auzins, 37, of Wishing Tree Road, in the Sussex town.

Police were called to a report of a stabbing in Clyde Road at 12.41pm on Thursday.

A short time later they received a further call to an injured man in an alleyway in Wishing Tree Road.

Mr Auzins had driven himself to the location from Clyde Road, despite the best efforts of police and paramedics he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Mohamed Ahmed, 21, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby and has now been charged with murder. He is due to appear at Hastings Magistrates' Court on Monday (31 July).

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Heater, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "We have spoken to the parents of Salvis in Latvia and they are devastated at the loss of their son.

"We are appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen the stabbing or have information about this tragic incident. Please get in touch with us."
