Hospital Trust fined £180,000 for burning man

A judge has fined a hospital trust £180,000 after a patient suffered horrific burns during minor surgery.

Mike Wilcock's injuries were caused by a warming blanket - known as a 'hot dog' - which staff at Maidstone Hospital had not been properly trained to use.

Mr Wilcock, a senior manager with the Health and Safety Executive, will now sue the Trust for compensation. From Maidstone Crown Court, John Ryall reports:
