New 'free schools' to open in region
They'll be state funded - but independent of local authority control - under one of the government's flagship policies to offer choice and flexibility in education. Our Social Affairs correspondent Christine Alsford has more on the latest wave of free schools to win approval. She talked to parents celebrating being given the go ahead to start up a new primary school called The Heights at Caversham in Reading. Her interviewees include parents Susan Jones, Zoltan Markella and Ruth Rosewell. And her report also features parents like Mischa Tytel and Nils Franke who are involved in setting up a secondary school in the West of the city called the WREN (West Reading Education Network).
