New London Lord Mayor to take office

The new Lord Mayor of London officially takes office today.

Shipbroker Jeffrey Evans will become the city's 688th mayor, taking over responsibility for running the city's local authority from Alan Yarrow.

During his year as Lord Mayor, Alderman the Lord Mountevans is expected to promote the UK's financial and professional services.

He has chosen to support JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity, and the Sea Cadets.

The public will get the opportunity to officially welcome him to the city on Saturday during the historical Lord Mayor's Show street parade.
