Unusual "book benches" pop up across the capital

These creative designs are just a few of the 50 "book benches" springing up in the capital from today.

The hand painted works, designed by famous authors and illustrators to look like open books, are inspired by a range of modern and classic novels.

The project, organised by the Literacy trust, aims to get more people reading a good book over the summer.

They will also post details on their website of walking trails you can take around the capital to spot the different benches. Once the project is over at the end of the summer, the benches will be part of a final display and then auctioned to raise money for the charity.
