London Overground – five years old today
Transport for London is celebrating London Overground's fifth birthday today.TfL says it has set new standards for rail travel in London since it took over the service in 2007.
Chief Operation Officer for London Rail, Howard Smith says:
"London Overground’s first five years have seen meteoric growth in both the railway network and passenger numbers."
TfL says a new service across south London (Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction) will begin on 9 December.
London Mayor Boris Johnson says:
“From its rebirth, London Overground has become a shining example of how railways should be run... The network will soon orbit our city, bringing a fast and frequent metro like service to thousands and dramatically improving transport options in South East London.”
