Lord Sutch honoured with blue plaque

A blue plaque was unveiled today to commemorate the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, David 'Screaming Lord' Sutch.

The unveiling at the Ace Café in Wembley was arranged to coincide with what would have been his 72nd birthday.

Lord Sutch fought more than 40 elections in his trademark top hat and leopard print suit and although he was always treated as something of a joke, some of his policies were actually ahead of their time.

His biographer Graham Sharpe:

Political scene 'poorer and duller' without Sutch

David Sutch was an irreplaceable presence at virtually every General Election and By Election from the 1960s onwards and the political scene has been the poorer and duller for his absence. We are delighted to be able to announce the unveiling of a permanent memorial to his impact on the worlds of rock and roll music and politics.

– Graham Sharpe, author of The Man Who Was Screaming Lord Sutch.
