Daniel Kaluuya: Ten things you need to know about London's oscar nominated actor

Daniel Kaluuya is up against the likes of Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington for Best Actor at the Oscars. So who is London's rising star and what else has he been in? Here are ten things you need to know about the young actor.

  • 1) Daniel Kaluuya, 28, was born in London in February 1989 and currently lives in West London.

  • 2) His theatre ambitions began at a young age, writing his first play aged just nine.

  • 3) After that he took to the stage began to perform improvisational theatre.

  • 4) Kaluuya joined the original line up of Channel 4's Skins and even wrote some of the episodes.

  • 5) After Skins, he added a string of famous TV credits to his CV including Doctor Who, Lewis, Silent Witness and Black Mirror.

  • 6) The film credits began rolling in too with Johnny English Reborn, Kick-Ass 2 and Sicario.

  • 7) But it was the hit America horror film Get Out which led to his nomination for Best Actor at the Oscars.

  • 8) Kaluuya has received a BAFTA nomination and Golden Globe nomination for his part in the film.

  • 9) Shortly after the Oscar nomination were revealed director Jordan Peele said: "I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you're on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that."

  • 10) The Oscars take place on Sunday, March 4, 2018.
