Huge fire in Croydon destroys cars

Eight cars were destroyed and a further 35 were damaged when a huge fire broke out at a car storage yard this morning.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to put out the flames on Peterwood Way in Purley Way this morning.

The fire brigade said they received more than 50 calls about the fire, with people on social media posting pictures of it as far away as Streatham.

The fire brigade was called around 08.45 and the fire was under control by 10am. Firefighters were called in from Croydon as well as neighbouring Wallington and Norbury fire stations. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
