Charlton Athletic fan jailed for swinging punch at Crystal Palace’s eagle mascot
A Charlton Athletic fan has been jailed for trying to punch Crystal Palace's eagle mascot at a cup tie marred by crowd trouble.
Daniel Boylett, 36, from Eltham was found guilty of the attack on Kayla, a 25-year-old bird of prey.
The verdict stemmed from ugly scenes which marred the Capital One third-round tie at Selhurst Park in September 2015.
Kayla's handler, Chris Belsey, was walking her around the pitch at Selhurst Park on his forearm when a punch was thrown from the crowd.
Crystal Palace, who are nicknamed the Eagles, adopted Kayla as their mascot in 2010. Charlton lost the match 4-1. Today, Boylett was jailed for 21 months.
