Official figures show speed cameras are targeting thousands of drivers in London as they drive to work in the early morning.

Almost 10,000 were caught speeding by more than 250 fixed roadside cameras around the capital.

According to Met Police figures released under freedom of information laws, drivers were often caught speeding around London between 5am and 7am last year,

Between 6am and 7am was the worst time to be caught breaking the speed limit with 5,188 offences recorded.

Motorist in Ealing were most likely to be caught, with 16,337 offcers, closely followed Hammersmith and Fulham on 9,250 and Tower Hamlets on 7,224.

Busiest speed cameras in London:

  • Busiest static speed camera was at the A4 West Cromwell Road junction with North End Road, westbound, in Hammersmith and Fulham, which caught 8,776 speeders.

  • The A406 Hanger Lane, southbound, near Greystoke Gardens, in Ealing, 8,163,

  • the A406 Hanger Lane, northbound, near Greystoke Gardens, 6,562

  • and the Limehouse Link Tunnel, eastbound, in Tower Hamlets, 5,385.

  • A camera in Croydon, in Old Farleigh Road (northbound) near Birdwood Close, only caught one offender last year.

According to Esri UK which mapped the cases, there were 90,543 notices of intended prosecution issued for speeding offences caught by 255 static cameras last year,
