Two prison officers "seriously injured" by Wormwood Scrubs inmate days after safety protest
Two prison officers have been “seriously injured” after being attacked by inmates at Wormwood Scrubs jail, just two days after staff walked out because of fears over safety.
The Prison Officers Association (POA) told the BBC the officers were on duty when they were attacked at the west London jail.
The Prison Service would not say if anyone else was involved in the attack.
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said they sent a single responder in a car, an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the prison.
She described the prison officers' injuries as "minor", but could give no more details.
On Friday, staff demonstrated outside the jail after a spate of alleged assaults by inmates.
An inspection report published last month sparked claims of "Dickensian squalor" at the prison.
