A man who attacked two police officers with a large knife as they tried to rescue a baby he was holding has been detained at mental health facility.

Officers PC Jack Muscatt and PC Jack Collins arrived at the property in Kennington, south London and found Carlos Djau making threats to kill.

They described the scene as "chaotic" with other people in the house screaming in fear. As the officers moved towards Djau, he slammed the bedroom door shut.

When the officers eventually got inside the bedroom PC Collins was stabbed in the head and shoulder.

He then charged at PC Muscatt with a swipe of the knife, missed the officer's head by millimetres.

Such was the force being used that the blade of the knife soon broke off as it struck PC Collins stabproof vest. The two officers were then punched and beaten with improvised weapons.

Both officers then worked together to control Djau who was eventually handcuffed.

Carlos Djau pleaded guilty to wounding against one PC and ABH against another and sentenced a hospital order.
