Steve Brookstein sparks outrage with HIV joke about Olly Murs' X Factor blunder

Steve Brookstein, the first ever winner of the X Factor, has sparked outrage with a joke about Olly Murs' live gaffe on last night's show.

Murs accidentally said that contestant Monica Michaels was eliminated before the results of the public vote was revealed.

Brookstein, who won the talent show in 2004 before falling out with Simon Cowell, responded by tweeting this joke about HIV.

Unsurprisingly, his joke did not go down well with Twitter users.

Brookstein hit back, tweeting: "Oh dear the X Factor viewers are upset. Duh! No surprise there then."
