Residents on a housing estate in St Albans are still unable to return to their homes, after a massive sink hole opened up there last week.

Houses on Fontmell Close were evacuated when the hole appeared last Thursday.

Gas and phone lines in the area are still disconnected and those allowed to remain in their homes are using temporary electricity supplies.

Thousands of litres of foamed concrete have been pumped in to fill the hole - but it is unclear when the area will be declared safe.

Rob Smith from Hertfordshire Council said they were not prepared to take any safety risks, and they needed to investigate what caused the sink hole to ensure it doesn't happen again.
