A mother who still breastfeeds her 7-year-old daughter says it makes big difference to her child's IQ.

Denise Sumpter, from north London, was responding to new claims that breastfeeding does little to improve a child's intelligence.

Scientists who conducted a study of 11,000 British children found no reliable association between breastfeeding and higher IQ at age two.

Nor was breastfeeding related to improvements in IQ after the age of two, indicating that it did not help young brains develop better over time.

But today's research was dismissed by the mother-of-two from Islington.

But writing today in the online journal Public Library of Science ONE, scientists involved in the latest study concluded:
