London's Rio Ferdinand has announced his retirement as a professional footballer.

The star signed for Queen's Park Rangers last June and his very first club was West Ham.

He played with Manchester United for 12 years and also served as England captain.

It comes after the sudden death of his wife Rebecca earlier this month.
