Extravagant 14 bedroom mansion sells for just a quarter of the asking price
A huge 14 bedroom mansion with two swimming pools, a tennis court, home cinema and climate controlled wine cellar has just been snapped up by a savvy buyer for a quarter of the original asking price.
Heath Hall, which sits on The Bishops Avenue in Hampstead, was originally built in 1910 for sugar magnate William Park Lyle of the Tate & Lyle family.
After it fell into disrepair in the 1950s, it was bought by a developer who completely renovated the property.
Alongside the 14 bedroom suites and six reception rooms, the property sits on 2.5 acres of neatly manicured gardens and contains extravagant features including a snooker room, library, and a private bar. The bathroom is decked out with twelve different types of hand carved marble imported from Italy.
After the redevelopment - which took 120 tradesmen years to complete - the mansion was put on the market for £100 million, making it the most expensive private property in the UK. The price was later dropped to £65 million but it still failed to sell.
In a potential sign of the capital's stagnating property market, it has just been snapped up for around a quarter of the asking price. The exact figure has not been confirmed but it is thought to be around the £25 million mark.
