A former soldier who served in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers then the French Foreign Legion has been given an award as part of Adult Learners Week.

Jon Fullan had gone off the rails long after he was discharged from the army. When his parents died he turned to drink and drugs and was eventually remanded in Pentonville prison.

On his release he was helped by the charity Veterans Aid which led to further education and vocational training at London South Bank University. The institution nominated him for the award. He now works for the charity as a case officer.
