Body found in canal near Manchester's Etihad stadium

An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a canal near Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Emergency services were called after members of the public reported seeing someone in Ashton Canal beside the Etihad Campus on Wednesday.

Paramedics and a police helicopter were went to Rowsley Street - the body of a man, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, was pulled from the water shortly after 4.50pm.

A preliminary police investigation has not revealed any suspicious circumstances.

A report is expected to be prepared for the coroner if foul play is ruled out.
