The parents of a seriously ill little boy from Liverpool are fighting a court ruling allowing medics to withdraw his life support.

23-month-old Alfie Evans has constant seizures. His parents want to take him to Rome for treatment - but doctors say it's not in his best interests.

His parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, have lost legal cases over their son in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights.

Alfie Evans' father meets the Pope to ask for his help

The father of Alfie Evans has met the Pope and begged him to save his son. Tom Evans flew to the Vatican for an audience with the head of the Catholic Church.

After their meeting, the Pope led crowds in silent prayer for Alfie. The little boy's parents want him to be moved to a hospital in Rome, after losing their latest appeal for his treatment to continue at Alder Hey.

Doctors there say continuing treatment is inhumane and futile.
