A man was seriously injured after his off-road bike slammed into a car.

The motorcycle rider, 30, suffered serious injuries to his legs, pelvis and collarbone in the collision in Wigan, Greater Manchester, at around 5am on Sunday.

He was taken from the crash scene on Manchester Road, in Higher Ince, and rushed to the Manchester Royal Infirmary to undergo surgery.

Pictures show the bike embedded in the white Peugeot 108 car.

The car driver, a 23-year-old man from Wigan, stopped at the scene and assisted the police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Officers said they received a separate report of an illegal off-road motorcycle with no lights leaving the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan a short time before the collision.

Investigating officer PC Paul Ashworth, from GMP’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Illegal bikes have no place on our roads and those that ride them put themselves and others in danger.

“This highlights the dangers of illegal road use especially motorcycles.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this time and I urge anyone with information to contact me.”
