Fines on overdue library books to be dropped in Trafford

Fines for returning overdue library books are due to be scrapped by Trafford Council.

The council says the move sends a message to residents that they will have access to a completely free library service.

Currently fines are levied at the rate of 15p a day per book.

Council leader Sean Anstee has said that the decision was based in part on evidence from Bolton council, which scrapped fines for under 16s.
