Man arrested over murder of Charlene Downes
A man has been arrested over the murder of a teenager who disappeared 14 years ago.
The 51-year-old, who lived in Blackpool at the time Charlene Downes went missing from the town, is being held on suspicion of murder.
Charlene Downes for 14-years-old when she was last seen on Saturday, November 1, 2003.
Police are still offering a £100,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of her killer.
The search for Charlene's killer is one of the largest and longest running investigations in the history of Lancashire Police.
Charlene was last seen when she kissed her mother goodbye to go to see friends on Blackpool Promenade.
A jury failed to reach a verdict in a murder trial in 2007 and a retrial collapsed in 2008 after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
Two men charged over her disappearance joked that Charlene had "gone into kebabs", a jury was told at the original trial at Preston Crown Court.
