Bermuda bank robber foiled by staff

Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a bank in Stockport in Bermuda shorts.

The man went into the Santander in Cheadle on Monday with no mask armed with a bizarre handwritten note. He handed over a note at the counter in which he threatened to shoot the cashier if they did not hand over a bag filled with cash.

“I have a ‘gun’ I will use it, I will shoot anyone in ere ‘fill’ this bag with all the money every counter, if you press the bell I will shoot you, don’t be silly and ‘fill’ it, pass this note back to me, don’t be silly!!!!”

However, the member of staff at the High Street branch calmly pushes an emergency button to bring down the shutters, forcing the man to turn around and walk out empty-handed.

It is thought the man walked towards Ashfield Road after leaving the bank. The member of staff was left badly shaken after the incident - and police are urging for the public’s help to trace the man.
