Fire devastates Blackpool guest house

Fire crews in Blackpool are dampening down at the scene of a huge fire at a guest house in the town.

Engines were called to Palatine road last night to find the building well alight, crews had to break into a car blocking a fire hydrant so they could tackle it. Information had been passed to firefighters that the property was under renovation but although no-one was expected to be in the building firefighters ensured that no-one was trapped inside.

The two neighbouring properties on either side were unoccupied but police evacuated homes further down as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
