Body found in River Mersey

Merseyside Police is investigating following the discovery of a body in the River Mersey on Wednesday night. Officers were called by the Coastguard after sightings of a body about six miles off the Wirral coastline. It's yet to be formally identified but its believed to be that of a man.

An investigation has begun into the circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as 'unexplained.'
