Police watchdog report to highlight failings in Rochdale grooming case

A 'lesson in failure' led to abuse in Rochdale Credit: PA

A report supervised by the police watchdog is published today and will highlight failings by police in the early investigation of child sex abuse in Rochdale. The IPCC report criticises officers' handling of victims allegations that they were groomed by a gang of Asian men in the town. Nine men were jailed at Liverpool Crown Court in 2012. Greater Manchester's Police and Crime Commissioner says the episode was a 'lesson in failure' by all the agencies involved. But Tony Lloyd said the police are facing up to those failures and improving the way they handle current allegations.
