European Parliament to demand apology for former shipyard workers

A former shipyard worker, who claims he was jailed for political reasons, is asking the European Parliament to help clear his name. Eddie Marnell was among dozens of people locked-up in 1984, during a strike at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead.

Workers claim the government was behind their arrest and prosecution. They want the actions of ministers from the time to be investigated. Today the European Parliament's petition's committee condemned the UK's actions and is writing to the government urging them to formally apologise to the workers.
