North West has highest suicide rate in the UK for 2012
The North West had the highest rate of suicide in the country in 2012, according to new figures published by the Office of National Statistics.
There were 12.4 deaths per 100,000 population.
Overcoming depression - a Rugby star's story
The latest statistics show there are more than seven hundred deaths a year from suicide.
And men are in the majority by more than three to one.
So what's being done to help.?
Rugby League star, Danny Sculthorpe, works with the charity "State of Mind".
He's involved with a team of professionals raising awareness of mental health issues within sport.
He talked to Granada Reports about his own struggle with depression.
