M6: Northbound carriageway at Kendal closed for resurfacing after huge lorry fire

The M6 in South Cumbria is closed for resurfacing work after a lorry caught fire on the northbound carriageway.

Drivers planning to use the road are being advised that it will remain closed at junction 36 near Kendal throughout this afternoon and beyond this evening’s peak travel period. (28 October 2021)

National Highways says the lorry fire has badly damaged the road and it needs to be resurfaced, which could take up to six hours, before the motorway can re-open.

A diversion is in place, using the A590, A591 and A6 up to junction 39 is in place from junction 36.

Drivers are advised to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys.
