Cause of fishing boat fire on Isle of Man 'unknown'

Firefighters on the Isle of Man have extinguished an extensive fire which began on a fishing vessel last night.

At around 11:30pm crews responded to a call on a boat anchored alongside the inner harbour of West Quay in Peel.

They located the fire in the cabin area but were unable to gain access to extinguish tthe flames.

Coastguards and infrastructure teams were also in attendance to deploy pollution booms to contain contaminates from the firefighting operations.

Firefighters were still completing operations this morning, with the situation still being monitored.

West Quay in Peel will be subject to a road closure until further notice and people have been asked to avoid the area.

It's not known how the fire started and investigations are ongoing.
