Liam Gallagher's thrown his support behind Manchester's Bee in the City art trail which opens next month.

The Oasis frontman was pictured putting the finishing touches to his rock 'n' Roll bee - one of 100 super-size Bee sculptures, all painted by different artists which will create a public art trail across Manchester this summer.

The Bee in the City trail will see more than 80 of the super-sized insects installed at some of the city’s biggest landmarks and cultural gems.

Liam’s Bee will join other Manchester legends including Hilda Bugden, an Manchester City FC Bee and even a Hac’Bee’Enda.

The city’s worker bee motif has been part of the city’s heraldry for more than 150 years as a emblem of the industrious Mancunian spirit.

This year it has taken on an even more powerful meaning as a symbol of unity following the tragic events at Manchester Arena.

At the end of the fun summer-long event, which engages with families and visitors to the city, all the Bees will be auctioned off to raise money for the Lord Mayor's We Love Manchester charity, which works to improve the lives and life chances of people in Manchester.
