Breast care patients recalled after failure in IoM radiology
Over a thousand women on the Isle of Man will get letters of reassurance today following an investigation into the work of a radiologist at Nobles Hospital.
26 women, who were previously given the all clear for breast cancer, will be asked to attend the hospital for further examination.
It follows concern over breast cancer screenings between January 2015 and March 2017. The radiologist involved is no longer employed at the hospital.
Minister for Health and Social Care David Ashford MHK gave a statement regarding the issue, saying that actions would be taken to urgently address it.
In total, more than 1,200 cases have been reviewed by radiologists at centres in the UK, with expert opinions sought.
Letters of reassurance have been sent to all women involved in the review, with the 26 women recalled for additional assessment.
Clinics have been set-up over the next few days at Nobles Hospital, where women recalled can discuss their concerns.
There is also a helpline service, staffed by healthcare professionals, to deal with queries from those affected by the review.
