Lottery winner: 'Things like this don't happen to people like us'

Denise Scarr, 56, and her husband, Robert

A couple from Morecambe are celebrating after winning more than £6m on the lottery. Denise Scarr, 56, and her husband, Robert, were the single winners of £6,311,254 in Saturdays Lotto draw. Like most of us, Denise who worked at Dunelm Mill in Morecambe, immediately handed in her notice as did Robert, who previously worked at a quarry.

The pair say they're looking forward to a retirement with no financial worries, the holiday they have always dreamed of but could never afford and a top of the range BMW car.

Denise added: “Treating our family, including seven children and 15 grandchildren is also top of my list of priorities.”

Denise added that she just could not believe it: “Things like this don’t happen to people like us."

The couple won with a line of Lucky Dip numbers: 1, 18, 20, 31, 38, 47, after buying their ticket from Morrisons in Morecambe. And they say they have no intentions of stopping playing now!
