Educating Rita goes back to its Liverpool roots for landmark anniversary

One of the Liverpool playwright Willy Russell's most famous works is returning to his home city.

The Playhouse will stage Educating Rita play reaches its 35th anniversary.

Educating Rita is the story of a working class hairdresser from Liverpool who wants more out of life and signs up for a course in English Literature and meets up with a disillusioned college professor.

Willy Russell's award winning play was first staged in 1980 and starred Bill Gaunt and Kate Fitzgerald.

Russell said he was delighted it's coming back to Liverpool.
