Car fire in Alderney

A States Works van caught fire in Alderney this morning.

The States Works employee who was driving the vehicle noticed smoke coming from the engine and pulled over on the grass verge at the bottom of Tourgis Hill just before 10am.

The island's fire brigade were called and six volunteer officers tackled the blaze, with three appliances. It took them 10 minutes to put out and the whole of the front of the van was burned out.

States Technical Officer Aaron Braye said he believed the blaze had been caused by an electrical fault.

“Fortunately no-one was hurt and the surface of the road was not damaged either. I would like to thank the fire brigade for responding so quickly and professionally.”
