Body found near Fairy Ring believed to be missing man

Police officers searching for missing Steven Corbet in July.

A body found near the Fairy Ring in Guernsey is believed to be that of Steven Corbet, 59, who has been missing since June.

Police received a report at about 3pm on Christmas Eve from a father who said his children had found a body near the Fairy Ring at Pleinmont.

Steven Corbet was the subject of a significant search operation after last being seen getting off a bus at Pleinmont on Monday 27th June 2016.

No search technique, no matter how specialist, offers 100% chance of success. While still a remote and difficult-to-access location, the winter weather has reduced the vegetation from its summer level.

A post mortem will be carried out and an inquest held in due course. Formal identification is likely to take several weeks. Family liaison officers have contacted Steven's loved ones and will support them during this difficult time. Officers will also visit the family who discovered the body to offer support.
