Jersey Under 21s coach: we deserved to win

Jersey coach, Paddy O'Toole, told ITV News his side "deserved the win" against Guernsey following their 4-3 defeat at The Track, after extra-time, in the Under 21s Muratti.

His side went ahead inside 20 minutes when Lorne Bickley reacted quickest to a shot which came back off the bar.

The hosts equalised midway through the second half via a neat finish from Danny Hale, only for Scott McClurg to head Jersey back in front.

That looked like being the winner until Jacob Fallaize popped up with a header in injury time to force extra-time.

Guernsey scored twice in that extra period, through Robbie Legg and Kyle Smith, and although Jersey pulled another goal back it was not enough.

[The players are] feeling down but they've got to be proud of themselves. The performance they gave out there today, we couldn't ask any more from them really. They were absolutely superb, I thought they were the better side. I thought we deserved the win but unfortunately that happens in football. Sometimes it doesn't go for you.

– PADDY O'TOOLE, JERSEY UNDER 21S COACH

[I'm] massively proud of them, they've done absolutely fantastic today. Some of them were completely running on empty by the end but the effort they put in and the desire they showed was fantastic so they've all deserved the win.
