Mediterranean turtle washed up in Jersey

A turtle washed up on the beaches of Jersey in January was cared for by local vets and volunteers. Terri is a Loggerhead turtle, the most common turtle in the Mediterranean that normally nest on beaches from Greece and Turkey to Israel and Libya.

After recovering from her injuries in Jersey, money was raised to fly her to a rescue centre in Gran Canaria.

Terri the turtle needs £22,000 to get home

Terri the turtle

Terri the turtle, who washed up in Jersey nearly two weeks ago, now needs to be sent by jet to a new home in Gran Canaria, if she is to survive.

The cost of that is £22,000 and New Era Vets are asking islanders to donate to the cause.

She was found on the shores of Jersey 12 days ago, thought to have been thrown significantly off course by storms.

The cold blooded reptile needs to live in warm waters and a rescue centre in sunny Gran Canaria have offered her a home.

New Era Vets have been looking after her so far and say she was cold and stunned when she arrived; they have raised her temperature but she still isn't eating on her own.

A fundraising page has been started for her, where over £2,000 has been donated so far.
