Mediterranean turtle washed up in Jersey

A turtle washed up on the beaches of Jersey in January was cared for by local vets and volunteers. Terri is a Loggerhead turtle, the most common turtle in the Mediterranean that normally nest on beaches from Greece and Turkey to Israel and Libya.

After recovering from her injuries in Jersey, money was raised to fly her to a rescue centre in Gran Canaria.

New Era Veterinary Practice in Jersey has set up a fundraising page to help fly an endangered loggerhead turtle to a rescue centre in the Canary Islands. They are hoping to raise £1,000.

Terri the turtle was found by a dog walker, washed up on a Jersey beach earlier this month. When New Era Vets took in the sea creature, she was dangerously underweight, cold and had a number of wounds and infections.

She's now recovering in a holding tank. Staff are hoping to release Terri into the wild in a more comfortable climate when she's back to full strength.

The fundraising page is available online by clicking here.
