A van in Jersey with two gas cylinders in caught fire today.

Fire fighters tackled the blaze Beaumont Hill this morning, saying the cylinders had been heated to the point flames were jetting out from the pressure relief valves.

Officers say the flames had to be allowed to burn, to avoid a build-up of unignited gas, but the cylinders had to be kept cool at the same time to stop an explosion.

Therefore, fire fighters took two and a half hours to cool the cylinders with water.
