Simpson set for England debut

Guernsey squash player Chris Simpson will win his first England cap next month after being selected in the squad for the European Team championships in Denmark next month.

The world number 23 is one of three new faces in the squad, alongside Adrian Waller and Vicky Lust in the women’s squad.

England are the reigning champions in both the men’s and women’s competitions, and Simpson has been selected alongside world number three Nick Matthew, Peter Barker, James Willstrop, Daryl Selby and Waller.

The Sarnian was given the call by Performance Director Tom Duggan, who has been keen to blood some fresh talent in an established line-up.

Our priority for the event is to retain the titles, but we also want to ensure that we use it as a chance to give some of the younger players experience and integrate them into the England team.

I am delighted for Chris, Adrian and Vicky, who will get their first senior England caps.

Each of them have earned this opportunity with hard work and performances over the last 12 months, and we know when called upon, they will put in the performances they are all capable of.
