Guernsey's States begin debating tax overhaul
Government spending cuts that will affect all islanders in Guernsey, start being debated today.
At the States sitting, politicians will discuss matters including raising the pension age to 70 and introducing a Goods and Services Tax.
It's all part of the Tax and Benefits Review, which has been controversial. The idea of bringing in GST has been unpopular with many retailers, with many saying it would be a 'blow' to their industry in uncertain economic times.
The overall idea of the Review is to raise the amount people can earn before tax.
It's hoped that will reduce the burden on the States to provide certain benefits.
We'll have all the progress from the States in our 6pm programme.
