Police concerned about taken pava spray

Police are concerned about a bottle of pava spray which has been taken from a Police Rucksack in Guernsey.

The spray is used by police on volatile or violent suspects.

A policeman left his rucksack behind while dealing with a suspect in St Peter Port on Friday night.

The rucksack and its contents has been found but the pava spray was not in the bag.

The bag also contained handcuffs.

Following a media appeal yesterday, a member of the public contacted the police to say they had seen a similar looking bag discarded in wasteland off Park Lane steps in Town.

If anyone has information about the spray please call 725111 or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Our primary focus remains public safety.

[The spray] will not result in any lasting harmful effects, but nevertheless it could in the wrong hands be used to cause considerable distress to others.
