The driver of the Waverley coach, who has worked at the company for more than 25 years, is thought to have had a medical episode behind the wheel.

The 59 year old is said to have walked off the bus after the incident and received treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The road was re-opened at 1pm after investigators attended the scene.

Islanders were asked to avoid the Emergency Department while those who have been injured are treated, but waiting times have since returned to normal.

An alternative coach was arranged for the remaining 20 passengers.

Jersey Electricity worked on the street light which was damaged during the crash and say it will be replaced in the coming weeks.
