Garage fire destroys car in St Ouen

Flames engulfed a garage in St Ouen last night, destroying its contents.

Emergency services were called to the property near La Route de Millais shortly after 11pm.

There were fears the blaze could spread to the nearby house.

Two fire engines, with nine firefighters on board arrived to find the garage, with a vehicle inside, was well alight with large flames and smoke coming out of it.

The roof began to collapse and fire crews stayed on scene for more than three hours extinguishing the blaze and ensuring that the surrounding area was safe.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. However, Jersey Police and Fire Officers will be carrying out a full investigation in the days ahead.
