Calls for changes to alcohol licensing laws in Jersey
Alcohol related crime could be reduced in Jersey with new policies.
That is the hope of a panel of politicians, who are updating the island's licensing laws.
Protecting children and improving public safety and health are among other results they want to see from the new legislation.
The key changes in the new system, if approved, will be:
Licences will be decided by a new Licensing Authority comprised of politicians and laymen
The Panel will meet monthly, not four times a year
Licences will be assessed against published criteria agreed by the States
The Alcohol and Licensing Policy Group will be created to oversee the operation of the law and licensing policy
Chair of the Shadow Alcohol and Licensing Policy Group, Senator Paul Routier, says the project will allow Jersey to have an "open and honest" conversation about the island's relationship with alcohol.
Constable Steve Pallett, also on the panel, says they will be working with all interested parties.
